How to download your files

Learn the different ways to get your files back out of Playbook, from a single board to your entire library.

Your files are always yours to take with you. Playbook gives you three ways to download, depending on how much you need and how often: grab a board or a selection on the spot, use the desktop app to keep everything synced to a local folder, or pull files programmatically with the Playbook API.

Download a board or a selection

The quickest way to grab specific work is straight from a board.

  • A whole board: click the three-dot menu (⋯) on the board and choose Download.
  • A few files: select the assets you want, then choose Download from the action bar.
  • A single file: open it and use Download in the asset menu.

A single file downloads right away. For a larger selection or a full board, Playbook builds a ZIP in the background and gives you the link when it is ready, emailing it to you if you step away. Very large selections arrive as a few numbered parts (..._1.zip, ..._2.zip).

Sync everything with the desktop app (fastest)

If you want all of your files, or you want them to stay up to date automatically, the desktop app is the fastest route. It syncs your boards to a local folder on your computer, so your library lives on your desktop and new changes flow down as they happen, no manual downloads.

Pull files with the Playbook API

For developers, or anyone automating a workflow, the Playbook API lets you fetch assets and boards programmatically, so you can move files into your own systems on a schedule.

Good to know

  • Bulk ZIP downloads are built in the background, so a big export is not an instant browser download, you get a link when it finishes.
  • The download link lasts for a while (roughly the rest of the day). After it expires, request the download again to rebuild it.
  • Download size scales with your plan, and custom sizes or formats on the way out are available on Pro and up.
